Sporting Force is a registered charity that supports ex-service personnel. We offer them a route into civilian employment within the professional sports industry.
We help veterans and their families by offering education, exercise and social events to help relieve mental health and social isolation. All the opportunities we offer are inclusive and can be adapted to meet the needs of our disabled veterans.
Research has suggested that the two best self-help strategies are exercise and social support. For anxiety sufferers exercise helps reduce worry, panic and other symptoms. Sporting Force offers sport, exercise, camaraderie and being part of a team again, things that veterans all miss. We offer our services free of charge to both male and female veterans and their immediate families.
PTSD and mental health affect the whole family; we understand the pressures and pain involved. Making services open to partners of veterans and PTSD sufferers we offer access to support and opportunities for the families, an opportunity to meet others who understand what it’s like to care for their loved ones, giving the opportunity to mutually support each other. Families are so important to Service personnel after being injured. Many family members provide unpaid care for WIS. Research has shown that if a caregiver is well supported, then the recovery is improved.
Sporting Force offer the same services to immediate family members recognising that they also need the support and opportunities to reintegrate with life outside of the services.
Sporting Force is on hand no matter which stage of recovery you are at. Even if you are not yet ready to begin a new career, we will work with you in preparation for when the time is right. We help with every aspect of the work placement, from writing your CV to preparing for an interview, and even after securing a successful result we will always be on hand whenever you need us.
Register to Sporting Force to access secured placements at a number of clubs, and the list is growing on a daily basis. If you have a particular club in mind, Sporting Force will approach them on your behalf and attempt to arrange a placement even if they are not already on our list. Placements will be offered in a wide variety of areas, including:
Retail | Catering | Hospitality | Ticketing | Admin | Grounds Keeping
Alongside these placements, we also make personal development and employability courses available. In many cases, further training will be signposted through the partners of Sporting Force. Additionally, both Sporting Force and the football club will provide full support throughout the placement, and we usually also supply an individual mentor for each veteran.
Register at any time and placements will be allocated as and when they become available. There is an expected turnaround time of approximately six weeks, although this may vary. Please use the registration form to apply for any of our events or to be considered for a programme or work placement. When making your registration, please indicate what you want to get involved in.
